🚜 New IGAS Trailer ID System for Harvest 2025

To strengthen traceability from field to store, IGAS is introducing a Trailer Identification System for all growers delivering grain to merchants and Co-ops from Harvest 2025.

🔍 What’s Changing?

From Harvest 2025, all trailers used to deliver grain must display a clearly visible trailer number.
This system is already in place for commercial hauliers and is now being extended to on-farm trailers.

🛠 What You Need to Do

  • Display a trailer number on both sides of the trailer (top front corner).
  • Numbers must be easily visible from the weighbridge—use car registration plate sizing.
  • Recommended format:
[Your IGAS number] – [Trailer number]
    e.g. Trailer 1 = 1234 – 1,  Trailer 2 = 1234-2

Approved Number Formats

You can use any of the following:

  • Car registration-style plate
(Available at motor factors, garages – approx. €10 + VAT each)
  • Stick-on letters/numbers
  • Painted lettering or stencil

🤔 FAQs

Q: I don’t own any trailers – my contractor does all the harvesting. What do I need to do?
A: You don’t need to take any action. Your contractor’s trailer number will be used for traceability.

Q: What if I sell or replace a trailer?
A: Simply update the number on your new trailer using the same format. You can reuse the number (e.g., 1234 – 1) if you only have one trailer in use.

Q: What if I borrow a trailer from a neighbour and it has their trailer id number on it?
A: You don’t need to take any action. Your neighbours trailer number will be used for traceability.

Q: Is my trailer ID number retained in any central database?
A: No. It is recorded on the weighbridge purely for traceability purposes for that load.

📌 Why This Matters

This new system is an important step in ensuring full traceability of Irish grain from field to final store, supporting food safety and assurance standards.
